Collected State

In our last meeting we explored a new contemplative exercise called Collected State. This is the basis of much of our work to come.

Gurdjieff was clear in his description of the need to strive to bring the parts of our inner life -- the intelligences of body, emotions, and mind -- into balance. "To perceive with one center is delusion; to perceive with two is hallucination. Only when presence in the three centers is balanced do we perceive the real world."

By coming in contact with a Collected State through concentrated work in the morning we find a touchstone to which we may return intervals, in the midst of activity during the day. When I am collected in this way, I can rightly say "I am here now".
