Am I Awake?

We had a strong meeting on Thursday and spoke about levels of consciousness. Ordinarily, when we move from sleep to waking the dreams continue though the contents change. During the day we dream about the past and future, our worries and concerns, what others think of us or our judgments of others.

Only occasionally do we wake up and find ourselves where we are. With work on linking the mind and body with attention and awareness we may increase the depth and frequency of this wakefulness.

Our theme through the new year is to observe our state of consciousness and periodically stand in front of the question -- Am I awake?

We are also setting an appointment with ourselves to come together in presence at noon each day. When the time comes we pause what we are doing and sense the limbs in rotation, then the spine, solar plexus, and head. When we have some collected presence, connect to the group and feel "I am here".

As well, try to take 15 minutes first thing in the morning to sit quietly and work with our morning exercise.

Our work toward wakefulness is not only for ourselves. The effect of our efforts radiates into our circle and beyond.
