A Three-Centered Being

In our last meeting we spoke about a model of a human as a three-centered being. We make use of this model to observe and study our inner life. An aim of our work is to come to know directly, to understand our own nature and design for ourselves. Do I see three centers each with a unique intelligence, perception, associations?

As I watch I am invited to see what is arising. Is this, what I am experiencing just now, a thought, an emotion, or a sensation?  How do the three work together? Are they in harmony or disharmony at different moments?

Our particular effort continues to be listening to the sound during conversation -- the sound of the voice of the person who is speaking -- both the voice of the other and my own. There is no success or failure in this -- the aim is to make the attempt to bring the presence of attention to the sound. As the Observer we watch the effort and its results.

A further principle of observation -- if I can see a thing then I know it is not me -- not only externally but also the body and its sensations, our emotions, and our thoughts.
